Should new plaster be sealed with P.V.A or with a very dilute coat of emulsion paint?
My local painter/decorator says seal with P.V.A but the D.I Y shop says don’t as this will not allow the plaster to dry.

Which pale cream paint for our extension?
We want to paint our 4 room extension in a nice pale cream off/white shade that will go with everything. We have friends who used Dulux Gardenia and that’s nice but there are so many similar shades out there it’s really hard to choose from a colour-chart.
Has anyone here used this kind of shade of Dulux or Crown paint for their room(s) and can recommend it? Or any painter-decorator thoughts?
By the way, it must be Dulux or Crown and definitely not magnolia.

How much should i charge per hour for decorating work?
i have set myself up as a painter/ decorator/handyman.
work is coming in and i do provide estimates for free but its difficult to gauge how much to charge.
initially i thought £120 per day, 7 hours work.
but
am i pricing myself out of the jobs?
i work in rural settings in the westcountry.

Do i have to register for the CIS Scheme?
I am about to go into partnership with a friend of mine. He is a painter/decorator and when we were looking at the local adverts of other painters we noticed that most were CIS registered. From what i can gather this is only relevant if the person is going to be a sub-contractor, which my friend is not going to be (he will be an employed director of the company). Is this correct or does he have to be (or the compnay) CIS registered no matter what?

the only experience i have is of painting and decorating my own home but no professional experience. How could i go about getting work experience, and should i do a college course? Can you make decent money as a painter/decorator? Eventually I’d like to work for myself.
