Female Painters and Decorators – your views please!?

I have started up a business as a female painter and decorator covering Manchester and West Yorkshire. When I first had the idea everyone was so supportive and thought it was a novel concept but, despite being in Yellow Pages, having a catchy name (Decor Divas) and shoving flyers through doors, nothing’s happening. Everyone I’ve given cards or flyers to has been really enthusiastic and said they would definitely use a female decorator rather than have a man they don’t know in their house (sorry guys) but nobody’s calling. I’m totally broke so can’t afford big advertising ideas but I gave up my job to do this … so I’m just wondering – am I dilluded or was it a good business idea really? If so, do you have any ways I can promote my business without it costing me loads of dosh?

I asked a question about coving?

A painter and decorator gave me a top tip about using masking tape and it was a great help, when added to all the other answers. Thank you all. I was dreading doing this because I am a YDIer (you do it). It’s not a bad looking job now I’ve finished. PAINT IT before you put it up is a top tip also.

Small businesses – the best return advertising for least money?

What have been some of your most successful advertising campaigns for small businesses – I’m a painter and decorator and am just setting out so I have VERY little money to outlay. I am going to do the local paper and am in Yellow Pages, but what about websites or similar that people have used? All advice welcomed.

where can I find a good face mask for a roofer?

I am looking for a good comfortable face mask for my husband who is a painter and decorator to wear when working to prevent him from inhaling the dust particles.

Should I do this for the sake of my football club?

I am leaving secondary school and I want to train to become a Painter and Decorator. Should I do a course at college or do an Apprenticeship? You get £100 or more a week, and that would pay for all the away games next season (I support Barnsley). Normally I am saving every penny I get just to travel to away games, and this money would really help for next season. What do u think?
