Why would new plaster fall off an artexed ceiling?

We have just had a professional plasterer cover over an oldish artexed ceiling. We left it to dry for 4/5 days and then the painter put on a couple of coats of emulsion. The next morning the plaster had fallen off in large pieces. I know that the artex was coated with something before the plaster was put on. How difficult will it be to redo the ceiling?

What can I wash the walls with?

My living room walls are magnolia and are quite grubby (baby hand prints etc). I live in a rented house so I need to know what to use to not cause any damage. I don’t want to repaint! Would sugar soap do anything? It looks like normal house paint, I don’t know the difference between emulsion or any other paint. Thanks

Painting the wooden stairs, special paint and undercoat?

I know opinion is divided on the tackiness of painting the wooden stairs(in a terraced house). But I am going to take the path less taken! Is there any special undercoat and paint I need to get?I am used to work with emulsion Matt paints(my expertise! is the roller), but I am now confused what kind of paint I need to choose to get a Matt durable[quite light duty] finish( and like to look a little less dumb when I am visiting BnQ tomorrow!Tips appreciated

Painting a kitchen, colour advice for old house?

My mums very old, cold house has a massive kitchen with lots of uneven walls to emulsion and lots of wood to gloss. At the moment the walls are sky blue and the woodwork is sunflower yellow, so nice and bright. We want a complete change in colour scheme but we haven’t a clue, it’s been this colour for about 15 years so nervous to change it and make a mistake – any ideas, please! The wood has to be painted not stripped, some of it is chipboard covering pipes etc.
Had a look at Farrow and Ball found some ideas thanks
…..Wow, moved 16 times! I was thinking of 3 colours, you’ve given me lots of ideas something to thinik about (for ages)!

Painting over cracked paint?

I have painted a room in my house and the paint has cracked I think this is because I applied the second coat too soon is there anything I can do?
Originally there was a very shiny paint on (don’t know what type as previous house owner applied) we put on a coat of white silk emulsion as the original colour was very dark and then two coats of matt emulsion were applied quite quickly afterwards.
