Can i get my house deposit back?
In February this year we moved out of our flat. We received a letter from the deposit protection agency saying that our landlord wanted to retain £475.00 of our £500.00 deposit. They claimed this was for re-painting the whole house, carpet cleaning and oven cleaning. We completely disagreed with this. We had done a few touch ups around the house which we felt didn’t warrant a full repaint. We therefore disputed this with the DPS. In the end we agreed to pay half towards the work (which we still felt was too much) so only received back £262.50 in the end.
My cousin happened to move into the house next. Still to this day they have not repainted the house, had the carpets cleaned or had the oven cleaned. My cousin is now leaving the house and when they came round to do the inventory check, she asked them when they were going to do the work in the house that i paid for out of my deposit. The estate agency have said that the Landlord is refusing to get the work done because she didn’t agree with the outcome of our dispute and is refusing to pay half towards getting the work done.
My question is, shouldn’t i be entitled to my money back if she is not getting the work done? In theory she has taken money from me in order to get work done, isn’t this kind of stealing from me…like fraud or something?

I want to decorate my new house.?
I moved into a new house. I am planning to fit a new kitchen. The living room, kitchen and diner are all connected by glass doors. So I want the whole area to be connected by similar colours. The walls are painted magnolia warm, a little more yellow. I have black appliances in the kitchen. I am planning to make the carpets biscuit colour.
I want to know what colours should I do for the
a) sofa
b) Kitchen units
c) Curtains

I still have a thick dog odor in my house!?
I replaced all the carpets in the house with laminate flooring but it still smells like dog odor. Should I wash the walls too? If so what should I wash it with. The paint still looks great. I really need to get the smell out. Someone please help!! Thanks!

how do you get gloss paint off carpet?
i have recenlty had new carpets put in my house and after painting a unit i moved it into aroom then realised it hadnt dried i havent attepmted to remove it with anything yet.

I need some upbeat music while painting, what can you recommend?
in two weeks I move into a new house, I have four days to paint, sand, lay carpets, put up shelves, and tile the bath room before my young family joins me. I’ve roped in all my relatives to help, so I need some upbeat fun inoffensive music to stimulate my workers. Thanks for your opinions
How can I make my house pretty?
I’m living in a rented house, I’m not allowed to paint the walls or change the floors etc. I’m a student so I haven’t got much money spare. I’d love to make the house prettier and more homely because at the moment it’s quite bare and dull. Any ideas? (-must be cheap!)
The decor is really boring – beige walls and carpets.
